We are delighted to introduce our much anticipated Advanced Ultrasound course with Rosie Ellis.

This course is aimed at practitioners who have already completed the Introductory and Intermediate Ultrasound Scanning course and are proficient with the use of the machine.

Learning Objectives:
-    To explore imaging of the small parts (and trickier structures)
-    To more confidently perform ultrasound guided FNA
-    To understand the limitations of ultrasound, when to measure and when to not!

This highly interactive and case-based course aims to provide further training to Veterinary Nurses who have an interest in radiography. The merit of a good quality radiograph cannot be emphasized enough! Interpretation and subsequent differential diagnoses are contingent upon adequate exposure settings and great positioning. Tricks of the trade that are easy to learn and implement, but are so often overlooked in the busy GP clinical setting, are simple yet highly effective. This course will provide lectures, case-based scenarios, quizzes and practical sessions and encourage collaborative radiograph critique. We look forward to you joining us!

This beginner's course will delve into the practical application of echocardiography for our veterinary patients and the treatment of select acquired cardiac diseases.

Initially, we will address patient preparation and positioning before delving into ultrasound machine knobology and image optimisation. The course will discuss B-mode, M-mode and Doppler studies, teaching us how to effectively perform a basic cardiac scan.

Through employing a multimodal learning approach, we will examine the reasons behind cardiac remodelling, with a particular focus on the echocardiographic characteristics of acquired cardiac diseases in dogs and cats . There will be a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, where participants will gain a strong understanding of the standard right-sided echocardiographic views and be gently introduced to the left apical views!

This course aims to provide an insight into the imaging, treatment and monitoring strategies of patients with MVD, DCM and HCM.

We are excited to launch this course on Computed Tomography for the general practitioner. Through theory and case-based learning, we will delve into the realm of this exciting three-dimensional imaging modality appraising its position as an advanced imaging technique in Veterinary Medicine.

The course will look at the physics of helical scanning and data acquisition with a focus on post-acquisition image manipulation; effectively how CT allows us to examine a structure or lesion from any angle thanks to the volumes of data obtained.

We will demonstrate the merits and limitations of CT, addressing its suitability as an appropriate imaging modality for the appendicular and axial skeleton, brain, abdomen and thorax.

We are excited to launch this course on Thoracic and Abdominal Veterinary Radiology for the general practitioner. Through theory and case-based learning, we will initially delve into the realm radiography, learning how to critically appraise and correct exposure settings, patient positioning and collimation, ultimately obtaining images of good diagnostic quality.

Normal and pathological presentations of the abdomen and thorax will be discussed with a focus on common pathologies identified with X-ray in general practice. This multi-modal course presents an engaging way to learn about cardiac, pulmonary, mediastinal and general abdominal pathologies observed with plain X-ray.

Improve Veterinary Education Computed Tomography Online

Improve Veterinary Education Computed Tomography Online

Approved for 20 CVE points by the Veterinary Council of Ireland for 2023

This novel mode of study aims to deliver a year of small animal abdominal ultrasound CPD for the GP clinician wishing to upskill in this often underutilized imaging modality. It will run from July 2025 through to June 2026, thus covering 2 years of CPD allowance (60 CVE points). The course is composed of monthly online lectures with informal case discussions and includes 3 full days of hands-on practical sessions delivered in small groups.

This multimodal course aims to delve, in detail, into the ultrasonographic features of each organ system, the presentation of common pathologies, and the innate merits and pitfalls of ultrasound in yielding a diagnosis. We will, in addition, study this imaging modality in the context of the emergency critical care setting, addressing its importance in the serial monitoring of patients and becoming competent in performing AFAST® and TFAST® scans. The practical aspects of this course will focus on how to confidently accomplish a comprehensive systematic abdominal ultrasound, a basic thoracic ultrasound (excluding the heart), and techniques for performing ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations.

Ultrasound so wonderfully bridges the gap between medicine and surgery and is a fundamental instrument in any diagnostic tool kit. We feel this course will be an invaluable asset to the GP clinician at any stage of their career.
