Introduction to Echocardiology

This beginner's course will delve into the practical application of echocardiography for our veterinary patients and the treatment of select acquired cardiac diseases.

Initially, we will address patient preparation and positioning before delving into ultrasound machine knobology and image optimisation. The course will discuss B-mode, M-mode and Doppler studies, teaching us how to effectively perform a basic cardiac scan.

Through employing a multimodal learning approach, we will examine the reasons behind cardiac remodelling, with a particular focus on the echocardiographic characteristics of acquired cardiac diseases in dogs and cats . There will be a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, where participants will gain a strong understanding of the standard right-sided echocardiographic views and be gently introduced to the left apical views!

This course aims to provide an insight into the imaging, treatment and monitoring strategies of patients with MVD, DCM and HCM.
