An Introduction to Small Animal Ultrasound is aimed at those with limited experience in diagnostic ultrasound. During this highly practical course you will be guided to achieve a good level of proficiency in the practical scanning of the normal abdominal organs and you will receive hands-on experience of scanning the liver and spleen, gastrointestinal tract, urinary and reproductive tract.

Ultrasound - An Introduction to Small Animal Ultrasound

You will receive advice on how to choose an ultrasound machine for your practice however you are welcome to bring your current US equipment with you if you wish to use equipment that you're already familiar with.

  • Appraise the application of ultrasound in veterinary medicine
  • Discuss patient preparation and sedation techniques
  •  Demonstrate image optimisation and knobology
  •  Recognise how to orientate and move the transducer on the patient
  • Identify the importance of performing a scan in a systematic manner
  • Recall the Röntgen signs
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive abdominal ultrasound
