This course involves teaching the basics of common eyelid surgery, from pre-op assessment to good surgical techniques. Highly practical in nature, the interactive wetlab will give the opportunity to perfect the skills learned.

Ocular surgery can be challenging because of the need to be very precise. The different approaches required in feline patients will be discussed. A very straightforward enucleation technique will be taught. Tips on positioning, surgical instrumentation, suture material, techniques, and using loupes will be given.

Procedures being covered on the day include:

  • Replacement of prolapsed nictitans glands (cherry eye)
  • Temporary tarsorrhaphy and proptosis
  • Eyelid laceration
  • Eyelid tumour resection
  • Entropion correction
  • Enucleation
