Essential Dentistry for Veterinary Nurses

On this foundation course we will focus on the 5 main competencies of veterinary dentistry:

  • Diagnosing dental disease in a consult room with specific emphasis on Periodontal disease (Pathology and treatment)

  • Making most of your COHAT: Intra-oral Radiography, Scaling, Charting

  • Planning your “pain free” patient: Pain relief pre,-intra,- and post op with special emphasis on nerve blocks

  • Extraction indication: Do I stay or do I go?

  • Surgical extraction of single and easy multi-rooted teeth (canine, incisors and first premolars)

This course will focus on taking the proper first steps in your dentistry journey with a highly experienced and skilled dentistry practitioner. You will be guided through the importance of dental charting and comprehensive dental COHAT, analgesia in dentistry patients to deciding factors in extractions.

Foundation Dentistry: Sinking your teeth into small animal dentistry.

This course is aimed at veterinary practitioners who have completed our Dentistry I course and who are confident with open and closed extraction techniques.  

Focusing on feline dentistry and common pathologies and their treatment, participants will spend time practicing the more challenging extractions such as mandibular canine and extraction of the distal root of the 1st mandibular molar. Participants will practice local anaesthetic techniques and learn how to perform crown amputations or intentional root retention. Additionally, participants will learn how to apply bonded sealants and how to treat uncomplicated fractures without periapical lesions with an unfilled resin.
